The Metropolitan Municipality will restore the area in Balbey Neighborhood that turned into an abandoned structure as a result of the fire occurred in 2018, and will reorganize it as a 'State Guest House'.
Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Böcek is adding a new one to his projects that will increase the historical value of Antalya. The Metropolitan Municipality, which has brought many historical buildings that were forgotten on the dusty shelves of history and abandoned to their fate back to the city, finally took action for an abandoned building located within the borders of Balbey District. Subsequently, by the protocol signed with the Governorship of Antalya, the historical building located in the Balbey District, which was derelict in the fire in 2018, will be restored in accordance with its original form and reorganized as the "State Guest House".
Being Restored
As a part of the work carried out by the municipality teams, the wooden structures damaged by the fire on the upper floor of the building, whose history dates back to the end of the 19th century, were cleaned. The State Guest House project, which is carried out diligently, will be restored by the original scheme of wooden details and will be brought back to Antalya.
Abandoned Building Will Become a Guest House
Stating that they are working hard to bring the projects that add value to Antalya's history, Serkan Temuçin, Head of the Department of Technical Works of the Metropolitan Municipality, said, "The building in question has become a dangerous area where drug addicts and people living on the street take shelter. It is a very important project to bring this area to the public by using it as a State Guest House.”
Historical Buildings Unearthed
Providing information about the ongoing projects, Temuçin said, “We had completed the Kaleiçi landscaping project before. At the same time, we have completed the 1st Stage project of Gülevşen Mosque in Alanya. Currently, our excavation works around the Hıdırlık Tower are still continuing. We have completed our project for the Necropolis Museum, the old town hall in Karaalioğlu Park, and the necessary procedures for its furnishing are currently in progress. We are building a female labor production facility in Elmalı. All of these are projects that protect and claim the importance of the history in Antalya," he said.
Neighborhood Locals Are Happy
Balbey Neighborhood Mukhtar Abdullah Uyaroğlu stated that he was very happy that the building, where public security incidents took place many times due to its derelict state, would be a State Guest House; “This building will be the State Guest House. The lights will be on for 24 hours, there will be security, security forces and police at the door. We are very happy about this. We will not be able to recognize it when it is finished, it will be great” and thanked the Metropolitan Municipality.
