Menderes Türel was born in Antalya on July 11, 1964. After completing his primary, secondary and high school educations in Antalya, he studied journalism in England. He worked as a journalist in Antalya for many years and was awarded “The journalist of the year” a lot of times by various press and broadcasting organizations.

In 1987, he was selected as “The best journalist of Turkey” in the field of research and analysis by the General Directorate of Press and Information. In 1992, at the age of 28, he was elected as a council member of Antalya Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ATSO). Then, he served as a vice chairman of the board of directors of ATSO between 21st November1987 and 25th of November 1999.

After the elections held on November 9, 2001 he assumed the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of Antalya Chamber of Commerce and Industry and continued until January 22, 2004.

On this date, he resigned from his position of Chairman of the Board of Directors to become a candidate for the mayorship of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality. He was elected as the Mayor of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality in the 2004 local elections, held on March 28, 2004 with 34,77 percent of the votes. He assumed this task until March 29, 2009.

During and under his membership of the Assembly of ATSO, Vice Chairmanship of the Board of Directors of ATSO, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ATSO and Mayor of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality; MenderesTürel launched many projects and organized seminars and conferences for the solution of fundamental problems of Antalya in the field of urbanism, commerce and recognition of Antalya in the tourism area. He worked as a volunteer envoy for the globalization of Antalya.

In the general elections held on June 12, 2011 he was elected as the AK Party deputy of Antalya. He served as AK Party Deputy Chairman in charge of Local Governments, member of the Central Decision of the Board of Directors and Central Executive Committee. He served as the president of the board of Turkey-Brazil parliamentary friendship group and as the member of Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly (MEDITERRANEAN-PA) Turkish Group.

He is elected again as the Mayor of Antalya Metropolitan Municipality in the 2014 local elections, held on March 30th, by obtaining 36,40 percent of the votes.

MenderesTürel is married and father of two children. He has a “University of Cambridge First Certificate” and speaks English fluently.
